PREP IS EVERYTHING
‘‘Prepping your skin is the first (and possibly most important) step when creating the perfect wedding makeup look. Fabulous, long-lasting makeup really is down to how good your canvas is and the prep you put in way ahead of your event date. It all starts with a great skincare routine and drinking lots of water - this is hugely underestimated, especially 24 hours leading up to your big day!’’ Suffering from dry skin ahead of the wedding? You can soothe your dry, itchy and irritated skin from head-to-toe and create a smooth base with the Intensive Rescue Trio, formulated with skin healing Lavender Flower Oil, anti-inflammatory Eucalyptus Leaf Oil, and moisturising Aloe Vera.
KNOW YOUR SKIN
‘‘Nailing your personal routine is key for a perfect base. Everyone's skin type and concerns are different, so it’s important to customise skin prep depending on your skin type. This is something I make sure to focus on when it comes to skin prep on the big day!’’ If you have an oily skin type, then steer clear of heavy moisturisers and creams. If you’re dry, then make sure to hydrate and smooth ahead of the big day. Knowing your own skin and how it reacts with makeup products is the difference between a good or bad makeup day! ‘‘It’s also important to remember that the images we often see online are heavily filtered and carefully edited. So, make sure you have realistic expectations when it comes to your makeup, especially the texture and finish of your makeup!’’
KEEP CALM AND TOUCH-UP
Hugs, kisses, sweating, crying - it all happens at weddings! So, keep a supply of the essentials in your bag. Think concealer, powder, and even your lip combo. One underrated item to keep in your clutch is a good setting spray. If you’re a dry skin sufferer and your makeup has started to dry down and look flaky, or you’re having a hot flush, you can apply a quick spritz of setting spray over the top of your makeup. This can also help keep your makeup look locked in for longer. ‘‘Using a spray on top of your makeup may not always give you even application, so I like to apply in a sweeping cross motion so that the product is distributed more evenly across the face.’’
‘‘The main touch-up product I am always recommending to my clients is setting powder! In order to stop your makeup from caking or separating, it's important to remember that you shouldn’t apply powder over the top of sweat and oil.’’ Make sure that the skin is completely dry by removing any moisture beforehand; blotting papers are a great way to remove oils whilst on the go, ready for you to top up your powder! ‘‘Just as you would with the powder, press the blotting paper into the skin without dragging to ensure you don’t move any of your makeup underneath.’’
SEEING RED?
‘‘Redness can be caused by so many things but a compromised skin barrier could be the culprit, resulting in sensitive, inflamed or irritated skin. Get to know your redness triggers by looking at your diet, skincare choices and environmental factors.’’ Wearing an SPF on the wedding day can help prevent more redness showing through - this is especially important if you’re going to be in a warm climate. ‘‘While SPF is important everyday and for all skin types, rosacea sufferers in particular should consider applying a sensitive-skin sunscreen on the special day before going outdoors, and should aim to seek shade where possible.’’
A good colour-corrector can help to neutralise the red tones in your skin. The 5 in 1 Anti-Redness Day Cream SPF50 covers all bases - it’s a great time saver, with concealing aspects, skincare benefits and SPF50 to top up your base sunscreen. ‘‘Use it like a concealer, around the nose area and chin where you tend to get more redness, all over as your foundation, or even as your base product. The non-greasy finish can help you beat some of the oiliness that a hot summer wedding day can bring, as well as getting to work tackling the root causes of irritation and inflammation with 8 naturally-active and prebiotic ingredients.’’
BEAT THE HEAT
Keep your skin cool, calm and collected! ‘‘For a humid or hot climate, I love to have any liquids like serums and sprays on ice that morning. This will add an extra dose of soothing care to your skin before you proceed with your makeup and can even help to reduce redness and depuff tired skin.’’
To stop your makeup melting and keep it all in place for longer, setting spray is an imperative final step. ‘‘This really helps prolong the wear of your makeup, and also prevent any patchy and cakey texture developing later in the day. You can even use a powder puff to press any excess spray into the skin.’’
A BALANCED DIET, INSIDE AND OUT
Feeding your body more of what it needs is going to help you look and feel your best on the big day! ‘‘Don’t underestimate the power of looking after yourself from the inside out, especially when it comes to feeling good in your skin.’’ Having a balanced diet and keeping hydrated will keep your body and skin in tip-top condition all year round, so you don’t have to bat an eyelid before the day of the event. But, nutritious ingredients aren’t just useful on the inside. The Sorted Skin range is packed with skin-loving, naturally-active ingredients and essential oils that will provide a balanced diet for your skin. The two aspects are linked, so what you choose to put inside your body can begin to show on the outside, and vice versa!
